Digital meeting or live broadcast, what is the difference?

Digital meeting or live broadcast, what is the difference?

Team meeting, Zoom experience, webinar, digital workshop or live broadcast ..? It can be difficult to keep track of the difference between all digital meeting solutions and identify what is actually best for your purpose. We bridge the gap between streaming and digital meetings.

What does live mean?

Live means that the meeting is broadcast live, ie streamed live, and viewers get an exclusive link to a website to watch the broadcast or webinar. The strength of live broadcasting in comparison with digital meeting is that you have a higher quality of production with a sharper image and sound without giving up the interaction with your audience. Of course, it is also possible to show pictures, give a presentation or play moving content such as an information film. In digital meetings, there is a risk of lag or movies frame rate suffers. Live broadcasts are based on other technical conditions and therefore do not share that problem.

A live broadcast or a webinar can be conducted both from a physical location such as a studio, it can be completely digital where all participants participate online, or a combination with, for example, a moderator in the studio and a guest from the internet. We see that this new type of hybrid meeting is becoming more common.

During a live broadcast, viewers can interact and ask questions via a chat, which can then be addressed or discussed in the broadcast. Viewers, on the other hand, can not connect via audio and video and ask oral questions. A live broadcast is always preferable if the content is to be recorded and used afterwards.

Is a digital meeting not enough?

Depending on the purpose, it can sometimes be enough to have a digital meeting on a platform such as Teams, Zoom or WebEx. In comparison with live broadcasts, digital meetings have greater opportunities for interaction between the participants. This through, for example, polls and questionnaires, oral questions and the possibility of dividing the members into group rooms or breakout rooms.

The disadvantage of a digital meeting is that you can not guarantee the same high quality if the meeting is to be recorded for use afterwards. In a digital meeting, we as a production company do not have the same control over, for example, network connection, sound or how the participants affect the meeting. Situations such as someone turning off or on their microphone at the wrong time or showing the wrong pictures for their presentation, are things that we can avoid in a live broadcast where we have full control over what goes out to the viewer.

If the purpose of your meeting is for the participants to interact and discuss and the content should not be used afterwards, a digital meeting may be well suited for the purpose. If, on the other hand, it is to be shown on demand afterwards, a live broadcast is exactly what you are looking for!
